Show THE NEW COMPENDIUM. A very complete and useful work is about to be given to the community. We briefly referred to it before, being the Compendium of the Doctrines of the Gospel compiled by Apostle Franklin D. Richards and Elder James A. Little. Since the work of a similar character published by Brother Richards many years ago has been out of print, the call for a compendium for the special use of the Elders has been very great, and the new, larger, and more improved work about to be on sale, fills a positive and urgent want. The new Compendium is of suitable proportions to be easily carried about by the traveling ministers of the Gospel but is at the same time quite exhaustive, embracing every principle and doctrine of the plan of salvation necessary to be included in such a work, and has over 300 pages. The manner of treatment adopted is first a brief statement, or argument of the subject and then are introduced the sustaining quotations from the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price, standard works of the Church and the inspired sayings of the Prophet Joseph Smith. The compilers have very wisely selected only the clearest and strongest quotations bearing upon the particular points treated instead of introducing a multiplicity of proofs. Among the useful and striking features of the work is an excellent chronology of the Book of Mormon, for which the compilers are indebted to Brother George Reynolds. It also has a collection of gems from the sayings of the Prophet Joseph, and a chronology of Church history. the index is arranged so that any subject upon which the reader desires to inform himself can be turned to without the slightest difficulty. This book is designed fro the special use of Elders in the ministry, to whom it will be of priceless value. It will also be of general benefit to the whole community of Saints, and a great aid to the honest in heart in their researched after the principles of the Gospel of Christ. In the New Compendium the latest editions of the Church works have been used. The prices range from one dollar to two dollars, according to binding-News. |
