Show I Political Doinos 01 the W66K M If the reasons were not well known I and thoroughly understood it might I be regarded with some degro: of I astonishment that both the Tribune 1 and the Herald arc so fierce in their k opposition to anything savoring of I fusion of the republicans and demo- I crats. The Tribune objects to fusion f because it would mean the utter dc- feat of the "American" party of which l it is the head and front. The Herald k objects for the same reason because it I is the secret ally of the "American" I party and while pretending to be the r champion of democracy its sole object ob-ject is to keep the opposition divided and split up so as to give the victory to the "Americans." Nothing could be plainer than this. The Herald crowd and the other few Gentiles who , arc nominally in the democratic par ty arc repeating their game of two years 'and one year ago. They arc yelling themselves hoarse for Dick Morris, but on election day they will vote the "American" ticket just as they admit they did two years ago when the "Americans" carried the city. Twice have they fooled the people in that way. Can they do it again? I More evidence has been added supporting sup-porting the fact that the democratic organ is playing into the hands of the "Americans" by the detcrmina- tion of the latter to cut the repub- licans out of all representation as judges of election. In every case where "Americans" can't be appointed appoint-ed democrats will be named. The Herald has in substance declared de-clared that it won't support any candi- 1 date on a fusion ticket. Nolwith- ' standing this terrible threat the rank 1 and file of the democratic party seems to have taken the bit in its teeth and determined on fusing on at least the councilmanic tickets in the ' v First, Second and Fourth wards. Probably they think the support of the Herald is a detriment. In its report of the republican primaries pri-maries held on Tuesday evening the Herald says there was no interest aiid no enthusiasm, that the primaries were merely held as a matter of form iust to keep the organization in tact. The Tribune says the republican primaries were dull, listless and featureless but still they were better by several degrees de-grees in point of attendance than tli09j of the democrats. As a matter of fact the republicans made a very good showing in the primaries. There were no slates and practically no endorsements en-dorsements of candidates.
