Show CHURCHMAN DIES; FATHER OF MRS. J. W. OLSEN Matthias Foss Cowley, 81, father fa-ther of Mrs. Joseph W. Olsen of this city, died Sunday night at his home in Salt Lake City, following ja four weeks illness. He was at one time a member of the council of twelve apostles and was noted for his gospel teachings teach-ings in L. D. S. church missions throughout this continent and Europe. Eu-rope. He made his last trip- to Europe Eu-rope about a year ago. Also he was the author of three widely read church books. He married Abbie Hyde in the Logan L. D. S. temple on the day it opened. After her death, he married Hattie B. Harker, who also preceded him in death. On September 22, 1899, he married Luella Smart Parkinson. Surviving besides his widow are eleven sons and daughters. Four sons preceded him in death. Mr. Cowley was known by many local church people. He not only had visited his daughter and family fam-ily here on several occasions but had spoken at church gatherings, priesthood meetings and In the : seminary. J |
