Show -N E W S- Spanish Fork Covering what matters most WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2008 - B7 DFJH Mt. Loafer DANCE: Because of a grant from the Utah Arts Council, students at Mt. Loafer Elementary have been privileged to have an artist in residence, Marilyn Berrett, a professor at Brigham Young University, come to their school and teach them dance. Berrett met with the teachers and received specific topics that would be taught in the classroom, then applied those principles to dance. The students learned about space, motion, energy, body movement, and rhythm as part of their dance experience. Berrett taught each class at Mt. Loafer on two separate occasions. She then brought her performing group, Kinnect, and with four target groups from the school, performed for the students. The teachers and students feel very lucky to have had Ms. Berrett and appreciate her time in coming to their school. The students first pick a famous person in American history and learn about that person, they memorize interesting and important facts, and then they get to dress like that person for a day. Students from other grades got to visit the museum and learn about these famous Americans. There was also a program that evening so that parents and grandparents could come and see what the students had learned. It was a very fun and educational experience for all that participated.
