Show FURLOUGHS FOR CERTAIN DRAFTEES Registrants of September 12 who were ordered to report at the capitol yesterday yester-day by the four local draft boards for induction in-duction into the students' army training corps at the University of Utah were f urloughed until further notice. Mobilization papers of the contingents were sent to the commanding officer at the university, but the men were not forwarded and were given furlough until they are needed. Delay in the induction was by order of Captain F. V. Fitz Gerald, United States draft executive officer for Utah, in pursuance of instructions received from Provost Marshal Genera E. H. Crowder. Meantime the men called and reporting yesterday are in the military service of the United States, subject to orders and entitled to pay. Clerk C. L. Price of board No. 2 reported report-ed yesterday that his clerical force had completed writing up of form 102 of the selective service papers, which includes assignment of all order number to registrants regis-trants in that division from the master list received from the great drawing at Washington. Mr. Price says his board is the first to make such a report to Captain Cap-tain F. V. Fitz Gerald. With arm bands marked "U. S. N. A.," scores of young men were on the streets of Salt Lake yesterday. They were draft registrants reporting for induction into the students' army training corps at the University of Utah, after having been called by their local boards. By orders from Washington, the young men. were given furloughs pending future call when they may be needed. Precaution against influenza is given as the cause for delay in their entering the training class. |
