Show Rites Held Today At Duchesne For J.F. Lynn Ross Funeral services were held today to-day at 1 p.m. in the Duchesne LDS stake chapel for J. F. (Lynn) Ross, 57, Arcadia rancher and farmer, who died in the Roosevelt LDS Hospital Monday at 5 a.m. following a lingering illness of several sev-eral months. Bishop Gam Gilbert of the Arcadia ward was in charge of the services. Mr. Ross was born May 30, 1897 at Joseph, Sevier County, a son of Robert F. and Elnora Gay Ross. He married Velma Smith of Midview, Duchesne County, Feb. 20, 1917. She died July 25, 1928. On May 20, 1932 he married Merle Massey at Vernal. In 1915 Mr. Ross moved to the site of his present farm and home where he began his career of farming and stock raising, after purchasing the land and water rights from the Ute Indian tribe. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Ross has always been active in civic affairs, especially in the problems of water and land development. At the time of his death he was president of the Indian In-dian Water Users Association. He was one of the instigators in the building of the road from Arcadia to Bridgeland. He was also one of the first directors of the Soil Conservation Con-servation District here. Speakers at the funeral were Marion Ross, E. L. Murphy, J. Harold Har-old Eldredge and George Hacking. Musical numbers consisted of a male quartet composed of Al and Winton White, David Bates and Kermit Poulson; vocal solo, Grant Peel; vocal duet, Mrs. Sheldon Fitzgerald and Bennie Schmiett, and a violin solo by Mrs. Alma Wills. The invocation was offered by Charlie Bird; benediction by Lester Gardner and the grave was dedicated by Marvin Shields. Mr. Ross is survived by his widow, the following sons and daughters: E. Floyd, Roosevelt; Delmer L. Donna, Lynn Lamar, all of Arcadia; and Mrs. Merlyn Bodily, Bod-ily, Gusher; four grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Stanley, Arcadia; A. Floyd, Salt Lake City; Abner G. Midvale; Ada Brownfield, June Kessler, Vaun Grimshaw, all of Beaver, and Ila Gibbs, La Canada, Calif. Burial was in the Roosevelt cemetery under the direction of the Olpin Mortuary of Roosevelt. |
