Show Mmly As Usual During The Ocsseveli Hospital's Fifth Birthday Has Treated 9,374 Patients; 1,091 Babies Have Been Born "Three babies were born and a major operation was performed" per-formed" on the Roosevelt hospital's hos-pital's fifth birthday anniversary last Saturday, said Superintendent Superintend-ent Harold Eldredge. "That's the way we celebrate." The hospital has treated 9,374 patients, the superintendent reported. re-ported. Only one person during the entire five years has died following a major operation. Accidents Ac-cidents and toxic ailments have caused other deaths which the hospital staff couldn't prevent. There has been only one maternity ma-ternity death out of 1,091 babies born during the half-decade. Eldredge is quite proud of the fact that expenses arc less at Roosevelt's hospital than at any other such institution in the state. He has that fact on the authority of Howard Jenkins, former LDS church coordinator for hospitals, now deceased. A twenty dollar surgery here, including anesthesia, will cost as high as $50 elsewhere and that doesn't include anesthesia. Eight dollars is charged for mothers in the delivery room, again including anesthesia. The same service can cost $15 at other hospitals and doesn't include in-clude the anesthesia. The hospital makes no charge for infants in the nursery." It will cost $1 or $2 outside. Private rooms range from $6.25 to $8 in the Roosevelt hos- pital. In Salt Lake City, for instance, in-stance, rooms are as high as $15. The superintendent reports that the hospital has never been subsidized in any way. It has received gifts of cash, food magazines, mag-azines, etc, but has never had to j call on an agency for money. The hospital, he said, is well equipped to handle maternity cases and most emergency cases, although, because of certain limited facilities, some are taken to Salt Lake City. Eldredge expressed a need for a polio section or ward which could be isolated, and a maternity matern-ity section. Both types of cases should be isolated, he said, so that better care can be given to them. |
