Show I Summer School Catalog Out Containing a complete announcement announce-ment of the program of events, the summer session catalog of Utah State Agricultural college was released this week by Director Direc-tor Milton R. Merrill. -: Registration for the summer session will take place Monday June 5. The six weeks session will end July 14 and an inter-session inter-session is scheduled for July 17 to August 18. The school has planned to meet the specific needs of teachers and students in war time. The fact that every institution and every activity must justify itself in war time, was taken into consideration "by the college, in formulating -;tthe summer session plans. The prgram has been directed in some degree toward the requirements re-quirements of new and returning teachers who ' need refresher courses. Special attention is also being given in the curricula , to the needs of freshman students, ry, and music. Edwin R. Clapp, professor of English at University of Utah, will be at the college during the six weeks. many of whom now begin college training in summer sessions. A daily lecture hour has been scheduled at 11 a. m. for resident faculty, students, and townspeople. townspeo-ple. In the past these daily sessions ses-sions have featured discussions by America's greatest scientists, artists, art-ists, and teachers. The gix weeks period will include in-clude several special features. Coach E. L. Romney's coaching school, which in the past, has brought such athletic names as I Francis L. Schmidt of the Uni-1 versity of Idaho, Lon Sinter of I Oregon state and the late Knute Rockne of Notre Dame university will bring for one week, June 5-9 two more important national coaches. Prank Leahy of Notre Dame and William A. Miller of Tulsa, Oklahoma, former coach of the AAU basketball champions will give courses in the coaching school. Both are well known in the field of sports. A two day Family Life Institute scheduled for June 22 and 23 will be led by W. E. Blatz, director of the St. George's school in Toronto, To-ronto, Canada. It will be under the supervision of a committee directed by Mrs. Esther Skeels, head of the department of child development at USAC. Expanding the physical education educa-tion program, summer session officials of-ficials have scheduled a workshop in secondary physical education to supplement the service courses. A camping trip and courses designed to study current problems in physical education will be highlights high-lights of the curriculum. The six-week period will bring many prominent American lecturers lectur-ers besides offering a complete course. Harold T. Jones of the University of California is listed for regular teaching although he will deliver a series of special lectures. lec-tures. Dr. Jones is director of the Institute of Child Welfare at the University of California. Mabell Glenn, supervisor of music in the Kansas city school system, and Glen Gildersleeve, director of music for the state department of education in Delaware, will teach a practical program in school music. Hubert Herring, well-known well-known national authority of Latin America, will deliver a series se-ries of lectures on the Americas. Columbia university's professor of literature, Henry W. Simon will give a series cf five lectures on common elements in drama, poet- |
