Mr. Theurer succeeds P. C. Fel-sted Fel-sted of Logan, who has served for the past four years. Mrs. Dow Lewis of Lewiston, was named vice chairwoman by acclamation, and Norman Christensen of Logan, defeated de-feated candidate for chairman, was nominated secretary by acclamation acclama-tion on a motion made by L. Tom Perry of Logan. Other ' officers named were Harold Har-old M. Petersen of Logan, to the newly created post of treasurer; S. Dunn of Hyrum, Levi Allen of Cove, Mrs. E. A. Parson of Benson Ben-son and Mrs. Clem Rawlins of Lewiston, State committeemen; Vincent S. Carlson of Logan, Logan Lo-gan precinct chairman and Mrs. Mable Quayle, vice chairman. The new chairman is a native of Providence, where he has served as a member of the town council and as recorder. He was chairman of the war services division of the County Civilian Defense organization organiza-tion and organized the Cache County War Chest organization. During the fourth war loan drive, Mr. Theurer served as chairman of southern Cache county communities. commun-ities. For 13 years he has acted as clerk of the county school board and is past president of the Utah State Agricultural college alumni association. Active in the Logan Lion's club, he served as president one year and as district secretary for a term. He also is superintendent superinten-dent of the Logan stake Sunday School organization. Mr. Romney's address centered around the topic, "Should Franklin Frank-lin D. Roosevelt have another term as president." "His reelection would constitute the most serious threat against free democracy because it would further weaken our resistance to life tenure of office and might result in a dictatorship," he declared. de-clared. "The trend is definitely away from the New Deal. The new congress undoubtedly will be hos-v tile to the administration's policies." He charged that lack of unity between congress and the president presi-dent would be disastrous to successful suc-cessful prosecution of the war and the reconstruction period to follow. fol-low. ''The new deal has no sensible, clear-cut foreign policy and the domestic policies that have been discredited are a. most serious threat to our democratic system of government, and cost an appalling appall-ing amount of money to operate." "I think enough has been mentioned men-tioned to demonstrate the failure of the New Deal and to justify the conclusion that Mr. Roosevelt should not be elected to a fourth term," Mr. Romney continued. "His administration should be replaced re-placed by a vigorous, practical business man surrounded by a cabinet cab-inet which would include the outstanding out-standing men of the nation regardless re-gardless of party affiliation." Their prime goal, he concluded should be successful prosecution of the war to final victory and insure a solvent, happy America in peace. M. C. Harris, Logan city attorney, attor-ney, was chairman of the meeting, which included brief remarks by David C. -Wilson, state chairman,)' ar.d other party members. j |
