Show UTAH PASSKS HALF MILLION MARK Final population figures for the Slate of L'lah have just heen issued by the Census Bureau In bulletin form. The total population of the State on April 1, 1930, according to the Fefteenlh Census, was 507,847. This is a gain of 58,451, or 13.0 per cent over the population of the State In 1920. The rate of increase was smaller than that for any preceding decade, while In actual numbers the Increase was the smallest since 1880: Organized as a territory in 1850, Utah was enumerated in the same year, at which time It had a population popula-tion of 1 1,380. The population has grown consistently since that year, reaching 276,749 in 1900, which was the first enumeration after the admission ad-mission of Utah as a state. . The next A ten years saw the largest numerical Increase, almost 100,000, in the hia- tory of the State. This was not maln- tained in t lie following two decades, though the present numerical In- I croase is a substantial one. Salt Lake vith 140,267 inhabitants, is by largest of the three cities, numerical increase was also . largest, although the rate of 18.8 ,jer cent was smaller than that of the other two. Ogden, the next in size, with a population of 40,272, gained 7,468, 22.8 per cent, while Provo, with the lowest numerical gain (4,-4 (4,-4 63, had the highest rate of increase (43.3 per cent). The next four clt-Ios, clt-Ios, in order of size, are Logan, Murray, Mur-ray, Tooele, and Bingham. Of the 29 counties in Utah, 17 increased in-creased in population, and 12 show a decrease. Salt Lake County, Including Includ-ing Salt Lake City, is the largest, lii' !"r a population of 194,102, which represents a gain of 34,820, or 21.9 per cent, as compared with its population in 1920. Iron County had the highest rate of increase, gaining 24.9 per cent over its population popu-lation in 1920, while Davis County was second with a 22.5 per cent gain. Weber County had the second largest larg-est numerical gain, having added 8,709 persons during this period. Of those counties showing losses, the rate in most cases was 5 per cent or less. In density of population, Salt Lake County led with an average of 25G.7 inhabitants per square mile. - On the other hand, Dagget, Grand, Kane, and San Juan Counties averag- yr ed only one person for 2 square 1 j miles.
