Show WEN POP WAS A BOY. Pop often talks about the tricks That he played when a boy: He often laughs when telling how The neighbor's he'd annoy. He nsed to sneak away from home When grandma had to cook. And to some orchard he would go And lots of apples hook. He often tells about the fights When clubs and rocks were thrown How some bold leader's ear was slit And some one broke a bone, And he will chuckle with delight When telling how he tricked The fellow on the other side. Who got so badly licked. He used to be so bad in school That nearly every day He got a whipping with the rod, Or late he had to stay, And many other pranks he played. And often he'd annoy. For pop was full of mischief when He used to be a boy. But. though pop often tells about The tricks he used to play. I About the grapes and apples hooked And fights most every day, You musn't think he's that way now, For anyone can see That he has changed an awful lot; He's strict as he can be. If me and Johnny played such tricks, There'd be an awful fuss; He'd scold for half an hour or more. And then he'd wallop us. And if we even hinted that Such pranks he used to play, He'd tell us times had greatly changed And we must all obey. There must -have been a lot of fun , When pop was just a kid. Or else he wouldn't laugh about The manw things he did. But me and Johnny ain't allowed To have that kind of joy. And we just say that pop forgets That he was once a boy. |
