As soon as tho man was lifted out of the water an osceptlc dressing iwas applied by tho hospital apprentice nd tho medical olllcers were sent for. "As tho wound was bleeding profusely, pro-fusely, a tourniquet was applied and the man Immediately taken ashore and placed upon the operating table; the I fragments of bono wero removed, tho arteries llgated and tendons sutured; , the fascia on the plantar and the skin ( on both surfaces sutured, through and through drainage being securod by a rubber drainage tubo left in tho wound.
