This program was given in the multi-purpose room of the new elementary school the evening of Feb. 17. Hollis G. Hullinger, Roosevelt, Roose-velt, president of the Duchesne County Board of Education, gave the welcome address and introduced intro-duced the platform guests. The program was presented as scheduled with Dr. T. H. Bell, superintendent of the Utah State Department of Public Instruction, In-struction, delivering the dedicatory dedica-tory address. Other dignataries who spoke briefly were B. A. Jacoby, 'Duchesne, board member; Mrs. Cecil Baker, Logan, representing represent-ing the Utah State School Boards Assn. ; W. Rowe Smith, architect for the elementary school building Robert Turner, representative of the contractor for the elementary school, The Turner Construction Co. ; Supt. Thomas J. Abplanalp, Principal S. Dale Goodman of the elementary elemen-tary school and Principal J. Keith Rogers of the high school. The dedicatory prayer was spoken by Edwin L. Murphy, one of Duchesne County's early-day early-day teachers, and a veteran member of the Duchesne County Board of Education, who retired last year. As the crowd left the new elementary school building, they were served fresh cookies and fruit punch by the school lunch department personnel, headed by Mrs. Myitis Buckalew. Directly after the dedicatory program ended at the elementary elemen-tary school, the crowd walked to the new gymnasium at the high school to watch a performance of gymnastics by Brigham Young University students, directed by Robert Leake, director of health and physical education, Utah State Department of Public Instruction. In-struction. Four young men and a young lady gave these demonstrations demon-strations on the equipment now available to students who participate partic-ipate in the physical education program at DHS. Bronze plaques were presented present-ed to the principals of the schools, sch-ools, on which were engraved the information when the buildings build-ings were erected, the names of the school officials at present, the name of the architect and the contractor. |
