WHERE WERE THE SHERIFFS Local Felonies (Continued from page 1) might occur in any community in the country, but it is claimed that in other communities an effort at least, is made to round up, the transgres-sors. WHERE WERE THE SHERIFFS ON FRIDAY NIGHT, SATURDAY EVENING, AND EARLY MON-DAY .MORNING? It is said the tax payers of this community, want to know, and yet, according to reports, the whereabouts of the; law on these nights has not been ascertained. The crimes, committed are felonies, and asjsuch should be punishable, ac-cording to talk along the. Rialto, but, according to common whispering, how are you, going "to punish a nian before you catch' him?,; It is claimed that during the past few months, many thousands of dol-lars have been placed into the cof-fers of the county sheriff, by deputies of the Bingham Canyon district, for alleged bootlegging, and a check over the courthouse records show that for the most part the violators come from BINGHAM CANYON. It is a known fact that the town of Bingham Canyon has its own officers to do away with the alleged purveyor of intoxicants, and yet, according to reports, the county officials take care of all these matters for the local au-thorities. When an offender is apprehended in Highland Boy or Copperfield, the heading in the Salt Lake papers shows the town given as Bingham Canyon. In other words, besmirching public-ity is given to Bingham Canyon whether or not the crime is commit-ted within the corporate limits of the town. According to reports, the situation may be summed up as follows: Peo-ple of the town are not protected against felonies, although, it is said,' from the alleged bootlegger, who for the most part, pays his fine, and starts up again, patiently awaiting the ar-rival of another fine.
