Show Utah Leads Birth Rate For Nation; Deaths Gain The nation's death rate is on the increase and births are falling off, according to figures compiled by the j Census Bureau. ! The death rate in 192S increased j to 12.3 from 11.4 per 1,000 in 1927, and the birth rate slumped from 20.7 to 19.7. Nevertheless, births throughout the country exceed the deaths. Last year J, 1,970,772 babies were horn, and deaths numbered 1,209,415. North Carolina and Utah led the nation in births with a rate of 27-5 I.er 1,000 cf population, and Washing-ten Washing-ten was at the bottom of the list with a rate of 14.4 babies. Mississippi and California led in deaths with a rate of 14.2 per 1,000. Idaho was low with only 7.4. |
