Show t LEADVILLE I f 1 (Correspondence Intermountain Catholic.) Leadville, Colo., Jan. 3. The services at the Church of the Annunciation Christmas were a3 follows: High Mass at 6 o'clock by Rev. George Saile, Avho also preached a beautiful sermon cn the "Nativity." At this Mass hundreds hun-dreds received holy communion. Low Masses Avere said at 7 and S and children's chil-dren's Mass at 9:30. A short sermon was preached at each Mass. High Mass at 10:30 Avas celebrated by Rev. J. J. Gibbons, who preached an eloquent elo-quent sermon.. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament followed immediately immedi-ately after this Mass. The services of the day Avere grand and impressive. The church Avas beautifully decorated, particularly the main altar, which was a bower of beauty and reflected much credit on the sisters in charge. At the 10:30 Mass the church was. filled to overflowing, the music and singing at this Mass being especially fine, and Avas Aery much appreciated by the large congregation present. , (. ,-.-': rendition" of Farmer's Mass in B flat showed very careful training on the part of the able director, direc-tor, Rev. George Saile, Avho spared neither time nor labor to furnish good , singing for the occasion, and in the opinion of many it has never been equalled at any former time. Thompson, Esterbrook and F. Thompson; Thomp-son; flute, Dr. Horton. Miss Mary Healey has been ill during dur-ing the past week. Mr. Al Lynch spent a few days in DenA-er last Aveek. Mrs. Shelley is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Welsh of Victor. Mr. Frank McLister spent last week Avith relatives in Denver. Mrs. Russell of Denver is A'isiting her brother, Rev. J. J. Gibbons. The funeral of the late Mrs. Talmage occurred Sunday afternoon. Miss Rose Redmond entertained a few of her friends at dinner Christmas. -? Miss Annie Dougherty o? McCarty spent a few days j in DenA-er last week attending to busi-' busi-' ness interests. -?- ' Mr. Pat Lunny, who was seriously in- jured several weeks ago, is still con fined to St. Vincent's hospital. ' Mr. Peter Cullen, formerly a druggist of this city, who has spent the past year in Butte, Mont., Avill return to Leadville. George, the little son of Dr. and Mrs. A. J. McDonald, who has been seriously seri-ously ill for a couple of Aveeks, has fully recovered. The funeral of the late Andrew Sweeney, Swee-ney, Avho was killed last Aveek, took place last Sunday from the Church of the Annunciation. Miss Lizzie Boland returned home Christmas eve after an absence of six months spent in Victor visiting her sister, sis-ter, Mrs. James Ahearn. John Jennings, the LeadA-ille circulator circula-tor of the Rocky Mountain News, has accepted the position of night mailing clerk at the postoffice. I ! Mr. George Connors, recently of Leadville. was married Dec. 27 at Vic-jtor Vic-jtor to Miss Mayme Farrell. They are ! A-isiting at the home of Mr. Connors' parents and receiving the congratulations congratula-tions of their many friends, who wish tj-p cnopp(!S and happiness through ine journey. j At the installation of officers held by the C. K. and L. of A. Dec. 26. the following fol-lowing officers were installed: President, Presi-dent, P. L. Gilder; vice president, Mrs. Sullivan: second vice president. Miss Katie Hart; recording secretary, Mrs. Carroll; financial secretary. Mr. Wil-lian Wil-lian Saunders; guard. Miss Hannah Carroll. After the installation a banquet ban-quet Avas sarved by Caterer Miller. The Knights of St. John held their regular election last Tuesday night and the following officers were selected for the ensuing year: President, James B. Whalen; first A-ice president. James Malley; second A-ice president, Austin O'Melia; recording secretary, J. E. Foley; Fo-ley; financial secretary, P. W. Bowen; treasurer, Joseph M. Killoran. On Jan. 2 the new officers will be installed by Past President and District Deputy James M. Murphy. This society intends to give an exhibition drill, ball and en-; en-; tertainment early in the new year. r Mrs. John Hagerty of East Fifth streec died at St. Anthony's hospital in Denver, Dec. 26. The remains Avere brought to this city and the funeral took place Friday morning' from the Church of the Annunciation. 1'ather Saile officiated and spoke A-ery touch-ingly touch-ingly on the beautiful Christian life of the deceased. Mrs. Hagerty Avas a resident res-ident of Leadville for many years and by her lovable disposition and many Christian virtues endeared herself to a largei circle of friends, Avho sincerely mourn her death. Mr. Hagerty. who has been in Victor for some time, met the remains at Colorado Springs. Mrs. Carbray of Hill Top. a sister of the deceased, also came to attend the funeral. |
