Show INITIAL GAME A "MARATHON" Mayfield, 17. Gunnison, 1C. And the score keeper ran out of paper, and Mayfield quit in the eighth inning. Were it not for these two incidents there is no telling where the score would have ended. It was the initial tryout game of baseball for the fans at' the Mayfield park last Sunday afternoon, and while it was ragged to a degree, it was thoroughly enjoyed. Practically Practical-ly all of the boys had their first work-out and are tender and it must not be judged in comparison as to what you will be handed out later in the season, or when the players get warmed-up. Gunnison used up four twirlers and in the sixth inning the score stood G to 16, with Mayfield in the lead. Harold , Halverson took the position in the box, and the tide changed. Halverson, during his inning, fanned three men and only allowed one hit and when the May-field May-field bunch closed the fun in th2 eighth inning, the score stood 16 to 17. There was plenty of hits and plenty of field work and must enthusiasm en-thusiasm was manifest. A return game will be played on the Gunnison diamond next Sunday afternoon and the Gunnison bunch are going to show the visitors a few-points few-points of the game maybo. |
