Show Clark Charged With First Degree Murder Sheldon Clark, arrested at Salt Lake less than eleven hours after killing Don Salovich about a mile and a half north of Gunnison January Janu-ary 6th, wilL face a first degree murder charge when he has his preliminary pre-liminary hearing at Manti, January 30th. The complaint, charging Calrk with first degree murder, was filed by Sheriff Jas. H. Sanderson last Friday. The defense attorneys for the murderer made an attempt to have a manslaughter charge m but failed. County Attorney C. M. Edwards who was active in locating Clark following fol-lowing the vicious murder, accompanied accom-panied by V. L. Dodge, a Salt Lata Telegram representative, left .r California late last week. Attorney Edwards is spending some time on the coast and it is reported, is gaining gain-ing some valuable information relative rel-ative to the actions and doings of Clark and Salovich before coming to Utah. Information thus far reveals the fact that both men spent four .days at, Pasadena before starting on the trip when the brutal murder was committed. It is also announced that some damaging evidence had been gathered at other points, which will not be in favor of the man charegd with the murder. The Buick coupe, in which Clark and Salovich were riding, was taken back to California, being driven by Attorney Edwards. In the belief that the machine was stolen an endeavor will be made to find the rightful owner. Redondo Beach will also be visited visit-ed by the investigators, and the mer- j chant, who, it is claimed, has identified identi-fied Clark and Salovich thro-gh ; photographs, as the parties who robbed rob-bed him of more than $2000 in jewelry jewel-ry and cash, will be (interrogated. This clue, it is thought by the pros j ecution, will prove of great value in fixing the crime of murder against Clark. Clark, who is now confined at the Manti jail, under heavy guard, still maintains his innocence relative to the robbery at Redondo' Beach. The prisoner, according to advices received from the jail at Manti, maintains main-tains a happy and carefree disposition most of the time. At times he is j happy and jocular, singing and pass- i ing the time unconcernedly. At other times he is morose and sullen. IIo insists, however, that he committed j .the murder in self defense and is. . confident that lie will escape punish- ; ment. |
