Show Utah Fruit Growers Will Hear Experts Fresh impetus will be given tc U"tah's growing fruit and vegetable industry at the annual meeting ot the Utah State Horticutural Society, Tuesday, January 24 at the Hote! Bigelow, Ogden, according to Professor Pro-fessor F. M. Coe of the Utah Agricultural Agri-cultural College and secretary of the association. The most urgent prob lems of the fruit and vegetabe farm- : ers will be discussed by the foremost horticulturists and research men. j There will be opportunity for round table discussions of all the probems involved. The Tuesday morning ses- ! sion will be a joint session of the vegetable and fruit men. In the af- I ternoon both groups will hold scp- '. arate sections. A banquet will be held i in the evening beginning at 6:30 p. m. Marketing problems wil be the chief points of discussion in the morning morn-ing joint session according to the program. Charles H. Smith of Cen-terville Cen-terville will open the session with the presidential address and marketing problems will be discussed by Professor Pro-fessor W. P. Thomas of the Utah Experiment Ex-periment Station, Frank Atwood of the Pleasant Grove Growers' Exchange, Ex-change, Frank Smith of Smith and Hancock, and J. O. White of J. O. White and Company. Parts of the afternoon program in the fruit section will be devoted to the cherry industry. Frank Andrews, federal agricultural statistician, Professor Pro-fessor L. S. Morris of the I!. Y. U., Professor F. M. Coe of the U. A. C, and H. W. Jacobs of Pleasant Grove will lead in the discussion of several outstanding problems of cherry growers. grow-ers. The afternoon program will also al-so be featured by an address by Harden Har-den Bennion, State Commissioner of Agriculture. The results of a recent national peach survey wil be given by Walter Kingsbury of the U. S. Bureau Bu-reau of Agricultural Economics. Several prominent market gard-ners gard-ners as well as representatives from the faculty of the Utah Agricultural College are scheduled on the program pro-gram for the vegetable growers session ses-sion in the afternoon. "Problems Facing the Onion Growers", and i "Standardizing Utah Celery" are two : of the most important topics. Dr. ! B. L. Richards of the College will discuss disease control and Dr. II. J. i Pack, also of the college faculty, will ( point out ways of preventing htsect I losses. A short combined business ; meeting will follow the afternoon pro-i pro-i grams. The conference of agricultural in- specters under the direction of the State Department of Apricuture will meet on Wednesday, January 25, and I these meetings will be open to all fruit and vegetable growers and many of their particular problems v ill be .discussed by the inspectors. |
