Show For Law and Order The fraccs at a dance in Ilyrum a few days ago, In which a murder was attempted and the danco broken up, and the recent scrap at Mendon In which the Marshal of our nelgpborlng town was badly hurt In trying to keep order, shows a condition of alfairs that should not exist in a county of such civilization as Cache. From these and other reports it seems that there is a lawless clement in practically every settlement of the county that insists on running tho dances in utter delianco of law and good order. This is an outrage and a dlsgraco and should not bc tolerated: and it need not bo tolerated if the proper people will but take the matter in hand with a determination to come out victors. Tho public danco is tho one great source of pleasure In this country, and the majority of young people who attend at-tend these dances pay for their tickets and arc willing to conform to tho rules of law and order. It is indeed reprehensible that the pleasure ot tho majority should be destroyed by one or two hoodlums whoso highest ambition ambi-tion seems to be to have tho reputation reputa-tion of being "able to run tho dances." In a law-abiding community this should not and must not prevail. Wo would respectfully suggest that at the different danco halls in tho county, a committee of threo good, muscular men bo appointed for the preservation of order. Let these men bo of sober Judgment, kind but llrm, and ready to givo tho medicine that will effect a cure. With the ilrst attempt at an outbreak let them nip it in the bud, and when a man becomes drunken drunk-en and profane let them do tho one and only thing necessary. At such times Sunday school sermons are not lu order, and should not bc indulged in. A law-breaker Is a law-breaker and a worse ono at a danco than most anywhere any-where else, so glvo him what ho deserves deser-ves and teach hhn a lesson. It will take only a demonstration or two at different places to mako this lawless element understand Its place, and will go far towards making tho dances places of real pleasure. Wo are in support sup-port of the laws and believe In compul-soiy compul-soiy adherenco to them If necessary, let tlie cost bo what it may. Arrest, and lino iikavily every disturber of thu peace, wherever ho may create his disturbance, dis-turbance, and the hoodlum ptoposl-tion ptoposl-tion will bo solved. |
