Show THE NEWSPAPER. Speaking of what a newspaper docs for a community, United States Senator Sena-tor Davis of Illinois, mado an address that remains over green in the memories mem-ories of newspaper men. He said: "Every year evefy local paper gives from COO to C,000 free lines for tho benefit of tho community in which it is located. No other agency can or will do this. Tho editor in proportion propor-tion to his means docs more for his town than any other man, and in all fairness, man with man, he ought to bc supported not because you hap-hen hap-hen to like him or admire his writing but because a local paper Is tho best Investment a community can make. It may not bc crowded with great thoughts, but financially, it is of more benefit than both preacher and teacher. Today editors do more for less pay than any other men on earth. Patronize your home paper, not as a charity, but as an investment." |
