Show ENTERTAINS IIS OLD Tllf MENDS Someihing over twenty years ago Piofessor J. A. Smith of this city nnd Supreme Judge M B. Reece and Judge E. E Good of the fourth Ju illclal dlitrict of Nebraska were associated as-sociated In nn educational and political poli-tical work in the state of Nebraska, and Mr. Smith was very much pleased pleas-ed to entertain the gentlemen In Ogden, Og-den, Saturday. Professor Smith at f ue time controlled a newspaper In Nebraska and It was largely through his Instmmentalltv that Judge Reece was elected to the Supreme bench. Supreme Judge M. B. Reece of Nebraska Ne-braska an'd District Judge E E. Good of the Fourth Judicial district of Nebraska, Ne-braska, spent Saturday In Ogden as ihe guests of Prof. J. A. Smith and brothers Over twenty years ago these men were closely united In educational, edu-cational, literary and political work '.n Nebraska, and It was Professor Smith's paper which cdlrorlally led lu the campaign which put Judge Recce on the supreme bench where h? has remained for the past twenty ears. By preai rangement the two Judges met In Ogden and after a day in and about the city, proceeded to Yellow-Ftone Yellow-Ftone Park, where they will spend their summer vacation. An Incident brought out In tho of these friends to the home. of Professor Smith was tho fact that forty-eight years ago Mrs. J. A. Smith, then a joung girl, saw the present juc'ge carried by his mother Into the church to be christened At that time the judge-to-be was attired in a long flowing white dress and other oth-er apparel characteristic of that age. Another incident In this same connection con-nection was the reception given to Judge Reece some years ago In which Professor Smith, In respond-inrr respond-inrr lo the toa?t, "Tho Press," paid a compliment to the newspapers and closed with these words: "The press, the press, with keenest zest. And o'er prophetic ken, Marks well the fittest and the best And makes and unmake men." |
