Show WHO CETS THE PROFIT Gil THE PEACH TRADE Brlgham City, Auk. 21. Who ceta the Ms rnkeoff on the fruit crop? I a question that is puzzling th Pribram Prib-ram City peach growers this season, The growers aro quite certain that they only get T.O rents a bushel for K)lerta poaches delivered to the shippers, ship-pers, at mi expense of 5 eenu for picking and 10 rents for transportation, transporta-tion, leaving only rents. The qncftlon as to whom gets the rnkeoff aroae when the following letter let-ter from John Derrlg, manager rif the Pioneer Fruit company :U O5-den. O5-den. was received by a local newspaper news-paper and made pnhllc: "Ogden. Utah. Aug 15. 191". "Editor, Dear Sir: We want to call the fruit growers' nttentlon In your vicinity to the fact that they have the finest crop of Elhorta peaches thU year ever in tho history of the state. We are advertising this fact to our pgents all over tho United States, and as tho prims this year are very promising it will be an Important fact for the growers to get out tho bent possible pack of peaches they can ami make a reputation for them-pr them-pr Ives. We are booking orders at tho present lime at SI cents a box f. o. b . Utah points, anj we. want to get this up to $1 Inside of a week, as the peaches aro gradually getting scarcer and prices gradually advancing, advanc-ing, and the Utah growers have tbe chance of a life time row to properly prop-erly grade and pack their fruit and the peach never hereafter will be looked down upon as it has been In the past. Yours Trulv, "PIOXETER FRUIT COMPANY. "John Derrig, Manager." The growers have no chanco whatever. what-ever. They are at tho mercy of the few local commission men who are now paving F.O cents a bushel for Kl-bertas Kl-bertas delivered to their bouses. Tbe above letter shows that the peaches bring the shippers $2.55 a bushel. It costs the shippers about 10 cents to pack a bushel, which still leaves a considerable balance, according to Mr. Derrlg'a letter. At Wlllard the growers receive 50 cents a box for Elbertaa packed ready for shipment; here they receive re-ceive only 37 cents for packing and furnishing all material. Some of the growers are getting quite discouraged, and unless a change soon takes place It Is quite likely that an Investigation will be made as to who gets the rakeoff. |
