Show I . In the last sixty years of national life, the Democratic party has been iu control only about 25 per cent of the lime. There must bs a reason. If the Democratic principles, are safe ones to follow it surely cannot be pure accident that the party advocating them has been able to "laud" so few elections. The greatest and most deplorable fraternal war of history, "ripened" during a Democratic administration. It was because of a weak vaccil-ating, vaccil-ating, hesitating administration that the germs of internecine strife were allowed to germinate and finally burst forth in four years of bloodshed. The Presidency of the United States is a big job and it requires a big man morally and mentally, to fill it. In Charles E. Hughes, the Republican party offers to the voters of America such a mau. If the country ever needed a President of backbone, decision of character, proved statesmanship, that need is being painfully felt just now. A vote for Hughes is a vote to restore our impaired national respect in foreign countries, a vote to accord American citizenship the protection the constitution guarantees it, a vote to "keep the old flag respected.'' a vote to promote every interest of the country and to undo the mistakes made by the present administration. Aud the vote will be overwhelming. |
