Show Might Have Been Worse. A United States senator recently spoke of the problem of Interest and usury in this country, at a dinner ot the New York Credit Men's association, associa-tion, and told the following story to Illustrate the practices which the comptroller of the currency had unearthed: un-earthed: "A man down in my own state went into a little bank in a country town and gave his note for ? 10 for three months. The bank deducted de-ducted interest and gave him $7. SO. A friend noticed he was looking pretty thoughtful and glum. "What's the matter, Jack?' he asked. 'I was just thinking,' said Jack slowly, 'how glad I am I didn't give my note for a year. I wouldn't have got a cent!'" |
