Show EUREKA 2 MILFORD 0 Local Ball Team Surfers First Reverse of Season Last Sunday afternoon, on the local ball yard, the locals suffered their first reverse of the season, when they went down to defeat before the fast Eureka ball team by a score of 2 to 0. The game itself was nip and tuck from start to finish and the team only lost out after putting up the hottest-scrap hottest-scrap ever seen on the local lot. It is indeed un-fortunate that a true account of the game would be lacking without an alibi, but old "Alibi" was there with all four feet in the shape of a batting slump; and while the local club had many opportunities to carry off the honors, they were absolutely-unable absolutely-unable to hit the ball when hits meant runs. This in itself wai distressing enough, but what marie it dnnhi,, n was the fact that meanwhile Gene Kirk was performing in such great style against so high class opposition. While touched up for ten hits, he kept them so well scattered that Eureka could only score one earned run. The batting of Eureka, as stated, was in contrast to the feeble efforts of the locals, who could only garner three hits from the delivery of Shaw, and these were so far apart that they did not produce anything that looked like a run and resulted iu nine men being left stranded on the bases three of whom perished in the very first i uning. The game was a heart-breaker for the large loyal, horn crowd, for besides the fine pitching of both Shaw and Kirk, the playing of both eides was spectacular. Also, last but not least, was the courageous umpiring of Mr. Shirley Atkin. While defeated, the locals are neither discouraged nordisgraced, and are hard at work this week praoticing for their next two games, which they will play with the strong Salina nine, Sunday and Monday, the 13th and 14th. As an example of the high regard the other teams of the state have for our purely local amateur aggregation, Eureka imported "Len" Scott, the best semi-professional catcher in Utah, to make the trip with them and do their back stopping.
