Show INSTRUCTS FARMERS AS TO "DRAINAGE" Farmers of Utah and other western Irrigated states will be told in a practical prac-tical way how to properly drain their water-logged or alkali land, in a bulletin bul-letin which was completed and sent yesterday to Washington, D. C, by R. A. HarL United States western drainage engineer, with headquarters in the local federal building. The bulletin Is declared by Mr Hart to be the first of Its kind ever issued and is the result of his personal investigation in-vestigation In the west for several years and of reports from his engineers engi-neers In Idaho, Washington. Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Ore gon, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. The bulletin comprises sixty printed print-ed pages and about forty illustrations. It will probably be issued from Washington Wash-ington in two months. All farmers who wish copies may then secure them. The bulletin prepared by Mr. Hart differs from all previous bulletins regarding re-garding drainage, in that it tells In a clear, comprehensive way exactly how any farmer may drain his land, giving directions as to what sort of a drainage Bystem to use, where to place the drains, how deep to lay them, and describing the machinery necessary. There have been numerous numer-ous drainage bulletins issued by states, government, and by agricultural agricul-tural colleges, but all fell short of their purpose, according to Mr. Hart, by only telling the possibilities of drainage or reciting what has been done along that line. The bulletin takes up both tile and open drainage systems, dividing the subjoct matter into design, construction, construc-tion, subsequent treatment, results, costs, co-operative work and a general gen-eral conclusion. Mr Hart says that it is a bulletin of which every farmer farm-er In the Irrigated west should have a copy. |
