Show WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. (Denver News.) On April 19, 1775, shots were fired which started tho war for the Independence Inde-pendence of the thirteen colonies. On April 19, 1914, Victorlana Huerta, by a sullen decision to stand by the wrongs his men have committed, has started the war for tho Independence of Mexico. For Mexico Is more the tyrannized prey of the wine-sodden dictator and of the ruthless monetary interests than ever were the American colonies the subjects of King George. The war must be fought for Mexico's" Mexi-co's" freedom, not for tho profit of unscrupulous un-scrupulous oil companies, nor for land grafters, nor vast mining interests. If the blood of good American boys must be shed, then let it be shed that Mexico Mexi-co may forever escape tho oppressions oppres-sions of a Diaz and Huerta, the brutalities bru-talities of a Villa and the pitiless driving driv-ing of the great industrial masters who care not that their dollars are minted by the debauchery of a whole people. If wc must fight, then let us stand by the weary and the oppressed op-pressed who, for the centuries since Cortex first overthrew the gentle Indian In-dian civilization, have longed vainly for a liberator. Let us fight, then, that land may bo returned to tho people and that Mexico may bo a nation of freemen, able to take their place among the best citizens of the world. nn |
