Show Instructions Sent U. S. Army Headquarters to Put New Command in Force Immediately. San. Antonio. Texas, April 23. Headquarters of the southern division, divi-sion, U. S. A., received instructions early this morning to at once re-establish the embargo on arms and ammunition ammu-nition into Mexico. This statement was made at Fort Sam Houston. The order came from the war department de-partment and was issued hero early today. At department headquarters Liou- tenant Colonel J. W. Heard, adjutant general, said the order would be en forced just as soon as troops on the border could be notified. At departmental headquarters it was said the embargo is operative at all points within the confines of the department. Federals control some Mexican ports of entry and constitutionalists constitu-tionalists others. On receipts of instructions from the war department re-establishing the embargo, Brigadier General Tas-ker Tas-ker H. Bliss, commander of the southern department, sent telegraphic telegraph-ic orders to such border points In the department as could be reached, notifying no-tifying officers to intercept all shipments ship-ments of munitions intended for importation im-portation into Mexico. In a short time the embargo was operative from the mouth of the RloGrande to the California boundary It was stated that the patrol along that stretch of 1500 miles has a. strength of about 10,000 men. Washington, April 23. At the war department it was reported that officers of-ficers at Fort Sam Houston had been ordered to stop all shipments of arms consigned to the Mexican federal troops at Piedriis Negras, across the border. Mexican Railway Closed. Washington, April 23. The Tehuan-tepee Tehuan-tepee railway across Mexico has been closed. The Hawaiian Steamship company has given notice that they have diverted their ships to Panama. |
