It becomes effective July 1, when the bureau will be formally launched on its important mission, the principal feature of which is the solution solu-tion of the smoke problem in bait Lake. George W.' Snow, former city engineer, engi-neer, is to liead the new bureau as chief inspector. He was not appointed yesterday, yes-terday, but the commissioners are agreed on him and he will assume office July 1. The inspection bureau will embrace the present departments of building, electrical and plumbing inspection and the newly created division of smoke inspection. in-spection. Mr. Snow, while the head of all the departments, is to devote most of his time to a study of the smoke problem. It was announced yesterday that Mr. Snow also will act na a sort of architect archi-tect for the city. Plans for municipal undertakings, such as the one involved in the renovation of the Y. M. C. A. building, will be prepared "by "nim. The head of the bureau is to receive $2400 a year, and the subheads, with the exception of the electrical inspector, will be given $18Q0, the salary of F. D.
