The city commissioners commis-sioners took action that is calculated to put a stop to ragging and other forms of i alleged immoral dancing in Ogden when j they recommended this morning that the J chief of police be instructed to stop sucli j forms of dancing at the puhlio halls in this city. If this fails, at the in- stance of the board a force of special officers will be appointed to act without ; pay. As a final move, if it is found necessary, nec-essary, an ordinance will tie adopted. The action of the board was taken In response to a petition recently presented by a special committee consisting of N. L. Nelson, Weber stake; Thomas M. Irvine, Ir-vine, North Weber stake, and E. J. Weaver, Ogden stake. The names of nearly all members of the parents' classes and Sunday schools of the Mormon Mor-mon church were signed to the protest against ragging and other forms of dancing danc-ing that are alleged to be improper or suggestive. This was the decision of the commissioners: We recommend that the chief of police be instructed to stop all ragging, rag-ging, immoral or suggestive dancing in public dance halls. Or. if thought better, and in line with the suggestion sugges-tion of the above-named committee, that a special force of officers be appointed to serve without pay, whose duties shall be to see that none of the objectionable dances is indulged in. or that an ordinance be passed which will prohibit all improper im-proper dances. The above report was signer by all members of the board of city commis- , sioners. |
