Show AUTO TAXES SIMPLIFIED Collection of personal property taxes on automobiles, formerly the bugaboo of the" county assessor's office, of-fice, has now been simplified to a point where it becomes practically self collecting, according to Charles E. Hawkins, county assessor. The change has btfen brought about through the enactment of Senate Bill No. 10, by the legislature, legisla-ture, which became effective' with its signing by Governor George H. Dern on March 13. The new law provides that before issuing any motor veTiicle license, the secretary of state must require from every applicant a certificate from the county assessor showing that the property taxes on the car has been paid or has been assessed to the real estate of tile applicant. The passage1 of the act ia especially espe-cially gratifying to Mr. Hawkins who is a co-author of the bill, as passed. He has urged the measure for the last six years but has been unsuccessful until this year. Tvhe deputy assessoi-3 will be provided pro-vided with the proper blanks and certificates by County Assessor Hawkins, so that applicants for-!, censes will not necessarily have to come to Provo to pay the tax. |
