number of nominees conse tconse quently the lodge rooms have been filled to repletion and the meetings have been earnest ones All the returns re-turns are not yet in so it would bout b-out cT place to mention results except ex-cept that the next grand master is selected of the jurisdiction by an almost unanimous choice and will be Brother John T Buckle of No 3 Work in the interest of legislation looking to the relief of aged veteran members of the order whose lodges become I be-come extinct is still being pressed forward for-ward by those who have the matter in charge The committee from the sovereign grand lodge consists of Stern of New York Thomas of Utah and Loomis of Nebraska New York has a body of Odd Fellows working to lhf same end styled the Associated Lodges of New York and Kings c unties un-ties of which Charles H Moses of Brooklyn is president and Francis A LeHuntte is secretary Both thecom mittee and the lodges are now actively ac-tively at work and will have some good lot of members out it being election night here was but 11ttle other material business transacted UVaih lodge No 1 had a very large attendance of members and past grands collars were everywhere in attendance at-tendance Besides the elections of grand lodge officers there was a presentation pre-sentation of a veteranjJewel to Brother Broth-er E W Duncan an Odd Fellow with a record of more than l quarter of a centurys service P G 11 J J Thomas Thom-as had the felicity of doing the honors hon-ors and in his speech drew attention to the honor an Odd Fellow received when invested with the emblem of veteramcy in the order During a splendid session many items of lodge Interest were taken up On Thursday next three candidates will be initiated Jordan lodge No3 was busy paralleling paral-leling its sister lodge No 1 in the way leant of doing honor to its first veteran Past Grand S G Brinton who having passed the twentyfive year mark of continuous membership received this coken of recognition from his lodge nd Which was presented by D G M John T Buckle who made an excellent talk on the subject The election kept the large meeting busy during the remainder re-mainder of the evening Salt Lake lodge No 2 had a very long session on Friday night for besides be-sides the elections they conferred the two final degrees on members Fidelity lodge No 17 from reports had a very fine meeting on Friday night and elected two andidates The election and assisting No2 in degree staff work completed their report REBEKAH ODD FELLOWSHIP The ladies Hodges of Odd Fellows have during the week had two meetings meet-ings and have been interested in a ball This week there will be two dime socials and work by a special committee commit-tee from Naomi lodge in behalf of the eighth anniversary which will come off a week from next Saturday Ester Rebekah lodge No S had a fine session last Tuesday night and had plenty of god things with which Ito entertain their many gUst A social time was had in which borne fine recitations excellent tations and excelert singing was heard Then tlhe degree staff had their photographs taken by flash light and of course the usual scream of astonishment aston-ishment was made Their spciall tomorrow to-morrow night is for the benefit of the lodge and a good time is looked for On Saturday night Naomi Rfbekah lodge No 1held its regular session and was busy in receiving applications electing candidates and admitting them by initiation The degree staff placed ce the ceremony on iUhe floor in a most creditable manner The committee on anniversary reported progress and a DtAv short speeches were indulged in The Social of Miriam Rebekah lodge No 5 takes place in their hal and is already an assured success There will ba a nice colLiation higlh five and a short but interesting programme INSTITUTION AT VERNAL I is a long hard ride to Vernal but Grand Secretary W J Moore made it all right and returned to town on Wednesday Wed-nesday last He spent several days at Vernal In company with Brother F J Herman of No9 and instituted and set in motion the twentyfourth lodge of Odd Fellows in the state The new lodge starts out with a good membership member-ship comprising some of the wealthy sheep men of Ashley valley leading merchants of Vernal and others One incident is mentioned as a peculiar one The lodge had no past grand among keeper of records and seal of that lodge Mr Trane is going on a mission mis-sion to California and he will depart April 10 Mayor Evans of Lehi was in the city Saturday March 2S In an interview in-terview he stated that the lodge now has a membership of fortythree with two more applications in The boys of Provo came up to Lehi the other night and assisted in conferring the rank of knight Mrs Shields wife of Mr W J Shields was laid to rest in the Mount Olivet cemetery Tuesday March 24 I The services were held at the residence I and were conducted by the Rev W K Beans Mr and Mrs Meakin nights No particular business was transacted but the meetings meet-ings were well attended Grand Chancellor Meakin went to Ogden yesterday to attend the funeral of Mr W S Stone Mr Stone was chancellor commander of Ogden lodge No2 2RATHBONE SISTERS The three temples convened as usual and transacted a good amount of business busi-ness Fry temple had a social party last Saturday night Highfive was the order of the evening Light refreshments refresh-ments were served by the ladies A carpet was raffled off by the ladies and Charles Meakii carried off the honors Mizpah will have a social in two lIzpah wi weeks which promises to be quite a success They will have a candidate for their next meeting Justus R Temple met Wednesday and initiated Mrs Zimmerman The initated 1rs ladles of this temple listened to a recitation I reci-tation which was very creditably rendered ren-dered by Mrs Joseph William Taylor 1 Another lady member sang a beautiful song These entertainments are instructive and Maccahecs The next regular review of Salt Lake City Tent No 2 will be held at their Odd Fellows temple on Mar hall in the Felows ket street in this city on Tuesday night April 7th and all sir knights are earnestly ear-nestly requested to be present and assist as-sist at the initiation of several candidates candi-dates The committee on entertainment entertain-ment has arranged for a good time at I the second regular review in April The order has been successfully introduced I in-troduced into New Mexico and the initial tent organized at Albuquerque I with a fine membership of the most prominent fne people of the city Sir Knight A S Knapp now at Albuquerque Albu-querque is the state deputy for New Mexico reporting to the Salt Lake office of-fice He reports the prospects there as being very flattering for the order Arrangements are now on foot to organize or-ganize a tent at Phoenix Ariz and the initial steos will be taken soon The order stands well in the estimation of their of the people there as some business people are members in other states Deputy Supreme Commander Wright is in correspondence with an old member of the order now in that I city who will take hold and push the organization of a tent there in the near organizaton there I future The work in Idaho continues to flourish flour-ish and the Maccabees are doubling their numbers in that state Sir Knight Sanders DS C is now at Mullen I where he will soon put in a fine tent Organizations have been made at Harrison Har-rison Wallace Lewiston Murray and I Denver as well as at some other points in Idaho and the work of organization I will be now pushed with greater energy ener-gy than ever Montana continues to be the banner I Maccabee state in the northern Rock I ies In that state they now have at least fifteen local organizations extending extend-ing from Billings in the east to Missoula Mis-soula and Hamilton in the west Sir Knight J D James D S C is now at Butte and is actively engaged in recruiting the membership of the order in that great mining camp Anaconda and Helena will receive his attention in the near future The tents in Wyoming are all growing grow-ing except perhaps that at Rock Springs Several new members are reported re-ported at Green River and we expect nothing else than increase at Evanston hundred with its fine membership of over one At Mercur the tent is very active and the members very enthusiastic The Maccabees were the first secret pr I der to locate in that young but growing camp and the membership is made up of a fine lot of men who will see to it that the order keeps in the front rank The knights and ladles of the organizations or-ganizations at Ogden recently gave avery a-very enjoyable banquet to their friends A most delightful time was reported and it is hoped that these entertainments entertain-ments will grow to be of regular occurrence I Foresters i I Foresters of America court Salt Lake No1 did not hold any meeting Thursday I Thurs-day evening but instead with the assistance as-sistance of the ladles of Viola circle I gave an entertainment and high five party Among the members on the programme was an address by Brother Lochney recitations by the Misses Gibbs and Brinker and others and young Robbin Moffat showed the crowd how to dance the Highland Fling in an artistic manner Then everybody played play-ed cards and at the end of the game i was announced that Mrs George Smith had won the first prize a beautiful ful gold belt and Mrs Dunlap the second sec-ond prize a silver cake cutter Thomas Hanley won the first gentlemans prize a pair of silver cuff buttons and Brother Bro-ther Chiverall the second prize a china match holder Dancing was then indulged in until 1 ClOCk Much credit is due the ladies of viola circle in their untiring manner and work to make the affair a success and so well satisfied are they that they are contemplating giving an entertainment entertain-ment of this kind every month during the spring and summer Modern Order of Woodmen The regular semimonthly meeting of 1 Salt Lake Camp No 53 was held last Tuesday evening with a large attendance attend-ance After the regular order of business busi-ness was gone through the camp was favored with a fine oration by Neighbor Past Consul Simons which was followed fol-lowed < by a song from Dr Douglass Oh Why Do You Weep Our only and original humorist Neighbor Wat rous was unanimously elected manger man-ger in place of Neighbor Reese resigned re-signed His speech of acceptance was the gem of the evening Pointed remarks were also made by Neighbors Dr Hodges and Desky Owing Ow-ing to the steady increase in the business busi-ness of the camp a movement is on foot to secure quarters where the camp can meet once a week and have a regular degree night to perform the se ret work |
