Show Roxanne Tops Jr. Olympic Meet Roxanne Toly, Park City's bright young skier, performed magnificently last week at the Junior Olympics in Squaw Valley, California, winning the downhill event and becoming the top lady skier at the competition. The 16 year old blonde Parkite ran the downhill on March IS in 1.16 seconds, nearly two seconds ahead of Kelly Davis, the second place finisher. Then she went on to take a surprising 4th place in the giant slalom held the next day and 8th place in the slalom on March 18. Her combined scored for the three events easily netted her first place for the overall competition and placed Park City on the map as a training drea for future Olympic skiers. Roxanne said she was very pleased with her performance in Squaw Valley, but even more pleased was her mother Mary Lou Toly, who runs the Red Banjo. Mary Lou beamed at the news, which made national press, admitting the first she heard f Roxanne's honors was on the news. Other Park City racers Kerri Hays and Louie Leatham, who were also invited to the prestigious presti-gious competition, also placed well. Keri placed 35th in the ladies Giant Slalom among a tough field of 60 competitors. She placed 45th in the downhill. Louie Leatham placed a solid 26th in a field of over 80 skiers in the Men's GS, and 48th in the downhill. The Junior Olympics are sponsored by the United States Ski Association for skiers age 14 to 16.
