Show EDITORIAL Save Miner's Hospital The recent proposal that the Miner's Hospital be moved and given to the city at a new location produced a mixture of skepticism, suspicion and disbelief at last week's council meeting. We agree that it is an ambitious proposition, filled with potential problems ,and pitfalls, but we hope it is considered in the proper perspective. The proposal may not be taken seriously by some members of the council, but the consequences are certainly serious. Park City, a town rich in history, may be in danger of losing one of its most historic and valuable structures. We support the council's intention to move with caution, but we strongly urge them to do everything in their power to save the Miner's Hospital. Regardless of the practical merits of moving the building, the prospect of the city having control over the building would seem to be an ideal situation. The need for a town museum has been discussed for many years. The Miner's Hospital could serve as a perfect location for such a museum and could possibly be combined with an expanded public library. If it is shown to be reasonable for the city to accept the building, we hope the council will not pass up a valuable opportunity. |
