Board memebers hired Robert B. Burns to replace Richard Groth to take over the football program at Park City High School. Burns was head football coach at Hillcrest High School, a 4-A school, in the Jordan school district. The new coach has teaching experience in four areas: physical education, Science, Social So-cial Studies, and Health. Burns began working at the high school Monday of this week and his contract lasts through the 1979 school year, (see related story) A joint school board meeting will be held between Park City and South Summit April 19 to go over the results of a survey conducted recently of those families who reside in South Summit School District, yet whose children attend Park City schools. 25 percent of Park City's student enrollment do not live within Park City School District, but in South Summit's. There has been a growing concern among those families concerning the right to vote in local school matters. Because these families do not live in the Park City school district, they have no representative representa-tive on the local school board and consequently have no official voice regarding their children's education. The survey asked residents in North Park City areas if they would rather change the boundary line and have their taxes increased, which would give them a vote in Park City educational matters; or, to keep the district boundary line the same and not have taxes go up. The survey showed an overwhelming over-whelming majority wanted the line changed so they would become a part of the Park City School District. The joint school board meeting will be held in Park City. In other business, board members voted to purchase a $500 tractor to be use for snow removal and also to offer a summer home economics course which students will receive a half credit. The course will be taught by Gay Strate. The board received a brief analysis about forming a summer athletic camp in Park City, but members asked for more information informa-tion on the program before making a final decision. Lewis Williams and Fred Langford were hired by the board to work with the maintenance crew in the district. Williams and Langford were formerly employed at the Ontario Mine before it closed February 15. The Park City School Community Commun-ity Council will hold a training session for old and new members March 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the high school. |
