' - ' ' I I ' it'll " , i ' ' , '- ri ft Randy Thompson Chamber Member Profile by Shirley Smith On Thanksgiving Day 1978 this week's Chamber Member will celebrate his 5th anniversary as a Park City business and it's a virtual certainty that anniversary will roll around because Randy Thompson and his Miner's Delight are almost a Park City institution and they are certainly here to stay! Randy came here from Chicago fresh from the printing business and having had his fill of same. Like so many of us he had been to Park City on vacation, liked what he saw and decided to make it home. When he couldn't find a job with a future, Randy decided to go into business for himself and figured an ice cream shop would be the perfect answer since he felt the town needed one-doesn't one-doesn't every town? - and there would be little competition. At about the time he was preparing to go into business, the resort was circulating a list of mining claim names as suggestions suggest-ions for business names - and thus the apropos name that graces the sign in front - The Miner's Delight. And it is a delight to go into Randy's, both visually and gustatorially. The walls of the old, high ceilinged building are literally covered with posters of all descriptions. In the beginning, Randy said, he had bare walls so decided to hang n couple of ski posters. Somehow the whole idea mushroomed 'til now people come in and give him special posters to add to his collection. Randy sells posters too and it's fun to browse through his collection of ski poster, Park City posters and even old movie posters while eating a soft and creamy Snelgrove's ice cream cone. In addition to ice cream - cones and sundaes and out of this world banana splits - Randy serves candy, soft drinks, coffee, hot dogs and chili. The chili is homemade and deserves extra special mention, I was told by a steady customer who had dropped in for a bit. It has onions and green peppers and real chilis. Now, what more "delightful" combination than a bowl of spicy, hot chili followed by a cool, soothing ice cream sundae with lots of whipped cream, or, perhaps a bag of jelly beans or chocolates to munch on. Whatever What-ever your fancy you will be delighted at "Miner's Delight" and we appreciate their presence in Park City and their membership member-ship in the Chamber of Commerce. |
