May 16, 1957 SOUTH EAST INDEPENDENT Page 3 Woman's World By Gene Koenlg Sugar House Lady Lions Meet at Lions House The Lion House social center will be the setting of the dinner meeting of the Sugar House Lady Lions Thursday, evening May 16 at 7 p.m. Mrs. Holland Naylor will be program chairman with the theme centered around "Moth-ers." Mothers, daughters and friends will be special guests. Mrs. Sherman Lowe, will be in president, charge of the meeting'. Miss Pat Brasher and her mother will be honored guests. Pat is the delegate to Girls State, sponsored by the group. St. Ann's Mothers Hold Luncheon The scene for the luncheon of the St Ann's Mothers Club will be the University Club, Thursday at 1 p.m. Installation of new officers will be the business of the day and will include Mrs. Frederick Norton, president; Mrs. Mathew Winkle, vice president; Mrs. Tharel McDonald, secretary; Mrs. Joseph Grose, treasurer. Mrs. John Arnold will be gen-e- al chairman of the affair and will be assisted by Mrs. Joseph Grose, decorations, and Mrs. Patrick Hession, tickets. Sugar House Girl Heads East Group A Sugar House girl has been elected president of the girls" association t East High School. She is Heidi Eldredge, 17-ye- ar old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Eldredge Jr., 2200 Parleys Terrace. Elections took place last week and were announced at a student assembly. . " " " v ' ' '. 'y? WAC Pvt. Yvonne M Hudson, daughter of Mrs. Ruth ML Dansie, 1410 Jefferson st., recently com-pleted eight weeks of basic train-ing at the Women's Army Corps Center, Fort McClellan, Ala. Pri-vate Hudson is a 1955 graduate of West High School. Rotary' Anns Meet At Tower House j Elect New Officers The monthly meeting of the Sugar House Rotary Anns was held at the Tower House, 878 East 9th South, Friday, May 10th. Election of new officers for the coming year was held after which members enjoyed an afternoon of games and prizes. Decorations for the event car-ried out the theme of Time Marches On" using clocks depici-atin-g 1938 to 1957 19 years since the first Suger House Ro-tary Ann meeting was held. Birthday presents were presented to each member to celebrate the Club's birthday. Elected were Mrs. Stanley Childs, president; Mrs. Jack Ok-lan-d, vice president; Mrs. Neu-ma-n Petty, secretary, Mrs. Ralph Tingey, treasurer. Mrs. John Cahoon, Mrs. Sam Nicholsel, Mrs. Paul Stevens were names as members of the board of directors. The June meeting will be an installation party to be held at the Country Club. New Bishoprics Named For Southeast District Two LDS Wards In the South-east Salt Lake area have new bishoprics. J. Dale Parkinson is new bishop of the Lincoln Ward in Granite Stake. His assistants are Chrles M. Knighton, first counselor; Orien E. Rose, second counselor; John H. Morgan, financial clerk, and William D. Bohling, statisti-cal clerk. The new bishop of Grant First Ward in Grant Stake Is Wells R. King. His assistants are Lyman Penrod, first counselor; Marquis S. Cheney, second counselor; Henry F. Elder and Harold M. Bowers, clerks. Hillside Teachers Elected By Society Two Hillside Junior High School teachers have been elected to serve as officers of the Salt Lake City Teachers' Assn. J. Nevin Richards has been named new treasurer and S. Marie Stapley has bees elected one of the representatives-at-larg- e. The two took office yesterday along with other officers of the association elected last week. Still to be named by the asso-ciation's executive board are a secretary and another represent-- . ative-at-larg- e. Lions Choose Officers Elected president of the East Mill Creek Lady Lions at a rec-ent dinner meeting was Mrs. Clarence A. Anderson, 3810 South 2780 East. Assisting her will be Mrs. Bayard N. Robinson, vice presi-dent; Mrs. Neldon R. Anderson, secretary; and Mrs. John R. Garrison, historian. Two year directors named at the meeting include Mrs. Frank E. Pitts and Mrs. Alton C. Mel-ville. Mrs. Dan E. Howells and Mrs. Grant Maxfleld are one year directors. Westminster Choir Elects President Loyd Reynolds of Stockton, Calif., has been elected President of the Westminister College Con-cert Choir. Mr. Reynods is a junior student. Other officers announced last week by Prof. James S. Vail, chairman of the Department of Fine Arts and choir director, in-clude June Slater, Salt Lake City, vice president; Bilie Soffe, Salt Lake City, secretary - trea-surer, and Gertrude Price, Grants-vill- e, librarian. New Utah President of the Navy League of the United States is Jay Shields, 1987 Broadmore. Mr. Shields was named to the top Utah Post at the national convention of the league in New York City. He will also serve as a national director. Methodist Church Starts Asia Series Methodiest Church, 2375 E. 3300 South, began a six-wee- k ser-ies last Sunday on "Peoples of Southeast Asia and Their Cult-ure." The series is being presented by Dr. G. A. Odgers, Pastor, sponsored by the adult Sunday School class. Babies .... M. and Mrs. W. L. Thatcher are parents of a baby daughter born Monday in the L. D. S. Hos-pital. Waiting to greet the little miss are Anne, Karen and Car-olyn. Paul Johnston, 5577 Hillside Dr., has been elected new district lieutenant governor of the 30-3- 0 Club.
