David GourIeyt under whose di-rection $15 million was spent cn Granite School District buildings and grounds, will resign as super, intendent on July 1. He is leaving for health reasons. It was during Mr. Cowley's 13 years as superintendent that the Granite district saw its largest ex-pansion. The district has grown from an enrollment of less than 8,000 in 1944 when Mr. Gourley started to the present record mark of more than 25,000.- - He started as an educator in Utah 46 years ago. He was Al-pine School District superintendent for 15 years before coming to Granite. Mr. Gourley has also taught in Millard, Washington, Utah and Salt Lake counties. He was one of the first Smith-Hugh- es agri-cultur- al teachers in Utah. In announcing his resignation last week before the board of edu-cation, he expressed regret that he did not have "45 more years to giveto education."
