Show Editorial Page ... The genius of America 1$ In Its citizens. From. all over the world they have come to strengthen us. When needed, there Is always the right man for the right place. More often than not he Is a unanimous unani-mous choice to fill a vacancy that was thought to be unfillable. Such Is the case with Holger M. Larsen the new executive secretary secre-tary of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce. Quite naturally he cannot fill "Jim's" shoes. Nor do we want him to and we can just bet he doesn't want to. And "Jim" doesn't want him to. Al! this is as it should be. For here is a man of stature quite able to carry on in his own way as was his predecessor. Far better for him to carve his own niche in the Sugar House hall of fame and we have no doubt that he will do that in a magnificent way. It was way back in 1905 that Mr. Larsen arrived in this great country from Copenhagen, Denmark, and made his way to the valley of the Great Sale Lake. He was just a lad. The years have seen him grow to manhood and fill places of responsibility in business and Church activity. Three score years and ten are quite enough to prove the worth of any man. Holger M. Larson has an enviable record of being worthy of the trusts allotted to him. So it is no wonder that he was the unanimous choice of the Chamber's Board of Governors. Holger is a big man big physically, big mentally and big spiritually. But he has something more. A solid, mellowed, controlled enthusiasm. When most men are ready to "take it easy" this titan of the good life zestfully assumes the lead into the gold future of Sugar House. How like Edwin Markham he is. When most men had retired Markham at age 80, wrote of himself these verses. We'd like to apply them to Holger M. Larsen. "THE LOOK AHEAD" I am done with the years that were; I am quits; I am done with the dead and old. They are mines worked out; I delved in their pits I have saved their grain of gold. Now, I turn to the future for wine and bread; I have bidden the past adieu. I laugh and lift hand to the years ahead; "Come on; I am ready for you!" |
