Show j tiili Mi Eyes Moppers - 1 Hill Air Force Base is plan- ling to spray for grasshoppers and insects this year beginning begin-ning some time after Aug. 10 SPRAYING WILL be conducted con-ducted only as required to control grasshoppers and in-. in-. sects at Hill Field. A ground application of Malathion, a locally popular insecticide, will be made utilizing a Rotomist Blower unit operated by the Entomology En-tomology Section of Hill AFB Civil Engineering. THE GRASSHOPPER population at Hill AFB will be watched closely since an abundance of grasshoppers attracts seagulls which are hazardous to flying operations. opera-tions. No spraying will be done within 500 feet of the base perimeter fence, when wind velocity exceeds five knots, or when prevailing wind direction direc-tion is such as to carry any of the insecticide off base. CAPT. DAVID A. Johnson, the vice-coordinator for Environmental En-vironmental Protection at Hill AFB, has advised both Davis and Weber County representatives represen-tatives of the U.S. Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Conserva-tion Service, USU Extension Service, Utah State District Agriculture Inspector, and Utah State Entomologist as to the method of application, type of insecticide and application procedure. |
