' Biggest thrill was a visit with Elder Kevin Park who is serving an LDS mission in the palmyra area and was also J involved in the pageant for his " second year. ., Following all the exit ex-it Ii ciiement of the production, visiting and making new li fnends, the girls headed back west, stopping at Kirtland, s, Ohio and Nauvoo, III. as LjJ special stops among other tourist attractions. V The camp is one of the outstanding out-standing events of the summer, and girls participating participat-ing have worked at various projects throughout the year to raise money for costs of food and materials. Mary Skelton, Woods Cross Stake Camp Director is as-. as-. sisted by other stake and ward leaders, in a program which is more popular than any other activity in MIA. The camp includes various activities throughout the day and evening, with special programs and spiritual events. Headliners are skits and games following hikes and camping skills. No doubt, a good time will be had by all. Sorry to have Pat and George Murdock and children Tera and Joel leave the area. Mr. Murdock has been transferred trans-ferred with his work to Tucson, Tuc-son, Ariz. They arrived at their new home Aug. 15. They have been residing in the Winegar home on 1100 West. The Murdocks have been very active in church and civic affairs, and will be missed by their many friends and neighbors. Elaine Walker, Janet Williams, and Peggy Kerr, coaches for one of the girls Softball teams in summer recreation, took the group of 15 girls to Mueller Park for a cookout and special activities as a conclusion to their summer activities. The home of Kent and Sherrie Holbrook was the place for a swimming party for members of Leslie Stone and Laurie Harwood's Softball team. Following, was a supper and slumber party at the Stone residence. Carnival time for Cub Scouts, Troop 232. Arranged by den mother, Mrs. Karen Van Uitert, and assisted by Kevin Van Uitert, Bryce Bishop, Tony Lossee, Vance Cawley, Phillip Ross, Ray 01-sen, 01-sen, Lance Olsen, and Brian Van Eitert, special. Special booths and games were set up in the Van Uitert's backyard, and invitations and flyers extended throughout the Fourth Ward area, inviting invit-ing everyone to the event. The over-flowing crowd enjoyed en-joyed the dunking booth, dart throw, fish pond, sponge throw, ring toss, and bean bag throw, plus refreshments. The carnival was such a success, that it will become an annual event. Bob and Carole Matheson and children returned home recently after enjoying a two week vacation in Yellowstone, Cody and Sheradan, Wyo. They were accompanied by Bob's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William John Matheson of Chicago, 111. An open house to honor Glen Ballard, prior to his departure for Sidney, Australia was held Sunday afternoon at the Calvin Ballard home. Friends and relatives from near and far were on hand for the occasion. Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Grow and an uncle Rusty Grow, traveled from Reno, Nev. for this special day. Former residents who attended at-tended were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pearson and family of Hunter and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pace and family of Ferron, Utah. Glen will leave Aug. 23 for his new two year assignment. assign-ment. Other visitors at the Ballard home during the week were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wadsworth and family of Hurricane, Utah. Sincere sympathy is extended ex-tended to Mrs. Bonnie Anderson. Ander-son. Her father, Alfred P. Ball passed away on Friday in a Salt Lake City hospital following follow-ing a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted in Murray on Monday, with burial in Sandy. Sorry to have Connie and Tom Riley and sons leave the area. They have been residing in the Dan Hunter home on Redwood Road. They are now taking up residence in Murray. New residents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Belnap. They have recently constructed a home just south of the Lawrence Moss home on 1100 W. Mrs. Belnap is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Lawrence Moss. Her husband is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Dean Belnap. Kirt Lewis is now a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed sta-tioned in San Diego. He is the son of Mrs. Louan Lewis and Bill Lewis. |
