X t j By MEL OS BORN Coach Calvin Albrecht entered en-tered the winning column in his ' first league Varsity basketball game as head coach of Beaver HighSchool. Albrecht had to earn the 59-57 59-57 victory the hard way.com -ing from behind in the fourth quarter to edge Enterprise. The Wolves have traditionally tradi-tionally been tough on their outside shooting and last Friday was not different as Scott Truman and Wayne Banks blistered the nets from 15 to 25 feet. Terrill Bergren and Dave Moyle also aided the Wolves combining for 20 points. Be-grent Be-grent canned one from half-court half-court at the final buzzer. Luckily Beaver had a four point cushion. I am glad we had a four point lead rather than a one point lead after that shot, commented Albrecht. The Wdlves grabbed a 15-13 15-13 1st quarter lead and stretched their margin to a 32-27 halftlme lead. Enterprise extended their offensive punch for a 46-39 46-39 third quarter lead. Chris Brannvall came alive in the fourth period with a couple of key steals. Thayne Marshall Mar-shall hit two field goals while Steve Hutchings hit 4, Ken Stoker 4 and Scott Stuck! 2. Br ann vails six points rounded off a 20 point surge for the Beavers while the Wolves could only muster : 11. It was a tight battle down to the final seconds. Brannvall Brann-vall was at the foul line with ! 3 seconds to go and it was I all over, even if the foul shot were good or not, a line violation forfeited Bran-nvalls Bran-nvalls front end of a one and one, and that when Bergren Ber-gren hit his desperation shot i to close the gap to 59-57. Brannvall ended up with 11, Marshall 12, Stoker 12, ; Hutchings 15, R. Eyre 7 and Stuck! 2 for Beaver. The Beavers travel to Parowan tomorrow night to i test the Rams for Parowans first league encounter. Gunnison invades Milford j and North Sevier travels to Kanab. If the Beavers can knock off the Rams, and the Tigers Ti-gers can put it together against Gunnison, Beaver can be in great shape when Gunnison visits Beaver on Dec. 18th. SURPRISE : North Sevier's Lee Mayer, 40, looks for clearance, where there isn't any as big John Dotson towers over him. The Wolves took a 73 - 54 victory in league play. |
