As a local insurance man he felt he could provide excellent coverage at competitive rates. It was decided to look over the city's coverage and recommend a bid package. Hal Mitchell met with the Council with a resolution opposing the Piaute Indian Tribe's selection of 5,000 areas in the Parowan water- shed. He urged the Council to do all they can to oppose this bill, by contacting their congressional delegation. He said it was not known how the selection would affect grazing, wager rights, hunting hunt-ing and fishing, but they definitely will be affected. He said a report in the Deseret News said the tribe planned to develop the lands with condominiums and possibly pos-sibly ski runs. He felt the 5,000 acres belong to the citizens as a heritage and should be retained. Other lands selected by the Piautes include: Koosharem Reservoir, Reser-voir, and the south end of Fishlake in Sevier County, (Continued on Page 3) Mr. John Rex, Empier Realty said a client would appreciate support from Parowan city in moving a mobile trailer manufacturing manufac-turing facility to Parowai from San Diego. The plar.t which would employ approximately approx-imately 60 people and occupy 150,000 square feet, would be a year around operation. The plant would employ about 45 local people, and bring about 15 management personnel per-sonnel with it. The client presently owns some property in Parowan and likes the area very much. He feels that Industry of this nature would be an asset to the community. The Council invited Mr. Rex to bring his client for a future meeting so they may discuss the matter and become be-come acquainted with him. Ralph Watson of Eckoff, Watson and Praetor gave their proposal for engineering engineer-ing the pressurized irrigation irriga-tion water system. He estimated esti-mated the average cost per water user at $8.18 per month on a year around basis. He proposed the most feasible route would be along the present ditch irrigation ir-rigation system. HERE'S MORE ABOUT Council Parowan the 1-15 Interchange at Cove Fort, 200 acresjand 100 acres at Kanarravile Hamilton Fort area, and 30 acres In Cedar City. The Council passed the resolution unanimously,and urged Mayor Robinson and City Attorney Eves to add any language that might strengthen it. They agreed to a raise from $40Q to $450 for their computer printout, until June 30, 1982, since other avenues of computer service are being considered. Mayor Robinson reported that there Is a possibility that the 1985 International Special Olympics will be held at Brian Head. Mitchell stated the Reservoir Res-ervoir Company will sign the agreement for the gravel trap, In exchange for two-thirds two-thirds the gravel, with the stipulation that the trap will not be cut so deep as to impound the water and 1m -pede flow into the irrigation system. He said Brian Head has offered substantial sum to the Reservoir Company if they will lease unused water during the winter months. He recommended that the money be used to move the power plant up the canyon to where the reservoir would be, and buying pipeline from there to the old plant for a pressurized water system for the fields and city all together. |
