Show KERENS OF MISSOURI In our selfcongratulation Incident to the successful closing of the negotiations nego-tiations which insure the most speedy and advantageous completion of Salt Lake Citys new trunk line to southern California there Is one man who has stood away in the background who should not be forgotten Had it not been for him Ills not at all likely that there would have been such a thing as the Sail Pedro railroad system linking the capital of Utah to southern California Cali-fornia and opening ill the lust of the great undeveloped country directly west of the Rocky mountains It was Colonel Richard C Kerens wholesouled gentleman enterprising citizen and philanthropist Republican National committeeman for Missouri that really projected this great enterprise enter-prise It is true that he was one of the original owners of the Los Angeles Terminal railroad and was selfishly interested In extending the limitations of the property he was in a measure responsible for but It was his personal thought that turned attention towards the actual project which culminated on Saturday in New York giving this city another and very importnnt railroad connection with the Pacific slope and which will ultimately give us many other railroad connection to the East There wore those in Salt Lake City who Jeered at Colonel R C ICcrcnss predictions of two and a half years ago that this line would be built and there were those who not only poked Irun nt him and ridiculed his predictions but i blackguarded hi ma man who never knowingly harmed anr person or thing thingMen When the lion Richard Kerens of St Louis till en gentleman originator origin-ator of the new railroad to southern California comes to the capital of Utah he should receive the thanks of every grateful and enterprising man and woman in not only Utah but the intermountain country Heres to Our Uncle Richard of Missouri Mis-souri may God bless him |
