Show NOW CLEAR THE TRACK Bicycle Riders Must Keep Off Sidewalks POLICE ORDERS ARE ISSUED Chief of Police Sheets Takes Definite Action Scorchers Must Keep in the Middle of tho Rood in the Bicycle District 4 or Answer in Court Beginning today the city ordinance relating to riding bicycles on sidewalks within the prohibited district will be strictly enforced as will also those relating re-lating to speed and lluenslntr Chief oC Police Sheets yesterday detailed de-tailed Olllcer Davies as a bicycle cop and he will ride the streets and sec that offenders are brought to trial Beginning April 1st the riding oC wheels in the restricted district was to have ceased but little or no attention has been paid to the ordinances by wheelmen and Chief Sheets consequently conse-quently considers stringent measures necessary The restricted bicycle district extends ex-tends and Includes from the south side of Sixth South street north to the north side of South Temple to State and to Third North between State and Eighth East The district Is bounded on the west by the west side of Fourth West anon an-on the cast by the cast side of Eighth East On any of the streets included in this district riding on the sidewalks is strictly forbidden and offenders proven guilty will have to pay a fine ranging in amount from 5 to 2o Very little attention has been paid to the ordinance requiring owners of wheels to pay a license each year oft of-t und to have fastened on the bicycle a tag showing that the license has been paid Turning corners quickly and scorching all come under the ban and It Is believed that the city treasury will receive quite an addition in the way of fines before wheel owners discover that the ordinances arc being enforced |
