Show DOUGLAS IS IN THE FIGHT He Will Continue to Bo Candidate for Republican Nomination for Governor of Ohio I Cincinnati 0 April > Correspondents Correspond-ents of the Commercial Tribune today Interviewed at their homes In different I differ-ent harts of the State candidates for the coming Republican gubernatorial nomination regarding the statement given out last night by George B Cox of this city that the delegates from Cincinnati would cooperate with the delegates from Cleveland and 1 other localities lo-calities In supporting Myion < T Herrick Her-rick Cleveland All concede the nomination nom-ination of llerrlck under existing conditions con-ditions and practically withdrew except ex-cept Albert Douglas of Chllllcothe who said While I am of course disappointed somewhat 1 am not surprised at Coxs announcement that he will support Herrlch i have said from the beginning begin-ning and have not doubted at any time that Senator Hanna had It In his powci to nominate any ono this year for Governor Gov-ernor If he saw lit to exert It I had hoped and had reason to believe that he would not use his great and deserved Influence among Ohio Republicans to control the nomination and I cannot help feeling sure yet that It will be wise to leave the convention free to make the nomination from among the friends of Senator Hanna and devoted to his reelection to the Senate Perhaps Mr llerrlck might secure the nomination without Senator Han tins influence exerted In his behalf Perhaps he may not secure It even should Senator Hanna actively support him That chance at any rate I shall take My own candidacy Is In no wise affected by the announcement of Mr Cox I was last summer unanimously and cordially Indorsed by the Republicans Repub-licans of the Eleventh Congressional district My friends nnd many local leaders throughout southern Ohio and elsewhere In the State have supported me with very gratifying heartiness I IMLVO no disposition to kick against the pricks nor to embarrass my friends and supporters but t T shall be a candidate candi-date for the nomination until the convention con-vention Is over and shall then be ready whether nominated or not to take the slump for the nominee and for the success and principles of the Republican party |
