Show DELINQUENTS ON INCOME TAX ARE TO BE ROUNDED DP IN WEBER AND BOX ELDER COUNTIES J. W. Reeve, head of the internal revenue department of this district, and who has just returned from a ten-day ten-day trip to Rich county, where he has been checking up on income tax delinquents, delin-quents, stated this morning that citizens citi-zens of Weber county should begin al once, lo make their income records In order to mnke a complete report fdr 1918. Return on this income tax for 1018. must be filed by March 1, 1919, and a check of delinquents in Weber county I for 1917 will begin inside of the next I two weeks and continue until the end I of the year. 1 The government has found that , there are a great number of delin-Iquents delin-Iquents for 1917, and the violators hav ' pleaded ignorance of the law. In many cases the government has been ! lenient and has only imposed a penally of fifty per cent on the tax found due. However, the authorities will not be so lenient for the year 191S. as citizens citi-zens by now should he well informed concerning tho law, There will be forms on hand at the office of the internal revenue department depart-ment in the postoffice building, during January and February, and these will be available to the general public. During the past six months agents of the department have been securing data from various sources on incomes received by individuals of( the community. com-munity. This data will be used as evidence evi-dence against those who fail lo make a return, and in such case, those found attempting to evade tho law, arc liable. lia-ble. The existing law now requires that all married individuals with an income in-come of ?2000 or more and all single individuals with' an income of ?1000 or more must make a return whether a lax is due ot' not. A fine of from ?20 lo $2000 may be imposed for any violation of this ordinance. During the latter part of December, n number of Individuals in this county will receive summons to appear before the department and show cause for not having filed returns for 1917. This office has power to show such individuals indi-viduals to be liable. Checks on violators of the income tax in Box Elder country are now be-I be-I ing made, and upon tho completion there a check will bo begunjn Weber ' county. |
