Show AWARDED TO RUSSIA. Th entente allies having agreed that "Russia is to have Constantinople, all that now remains is for the forces of the czar to capture the city and turn its magnificent mosque into a Christian cathedral aain. It has been generally supposed that Rttr-sia would be allowed to realize its ambition and take poses- sion of the Turkish cardial and the Par- uanelles in case the allies have the say in such matters at the close of the war. Perhaps that is the chief reason the ' ' unspeakable Turk ' ' decided to cast his fortunes with the Teutons, knowing full well that he would be compelled to j move out of Europe even if he remained i . neutral. The co user vat ive papers of j ; Great Bi'itain are not enthusiastic over 1 i the announcement, for until the present war lroko out it was the evident pur pose of John Bull to keep the Russian - - - hear out of Constantinople at all cots. The comment of the Liberal papers, however, is favorable, and the matter is regarded as settled all except the moving out of the Moslems and the moving in of the Muscovites, which j may or may not occur within the next year or two. We wonder what promises the Germans made to the Turks as to the future. |
