Show MEAKIN'S CONDITION REPORTED CRITICAL But Little Hope for Recovery of Former For-mer salt Laker Who Is 111 in Washington. Word was received from Wahsinston last night Indicating that the illness of John P. Meakin was more critical than at first presumed. Alarmed by the reports. re-ports. Dr. Fred W. Meakin of Salt Lake left yesterday for Wasrunyton to be with his father. Mr. Meakin is reported to be seriously ill with asthma and heart trouble, and his condition, it is said, gives cause for grave fear. Mr.. Meakln's family and friends had planned to have hlrn return to Utah in the hope that a change of climate would be beneficial, but were forced to abandon such plans on account of his weakened condition. For several years Mr. Meakin has been in the employ of the senate. He lived in i?alt Lake for many years and his illness will be a cause Of regret among a large circle of friends here. While here Mr. Meakin was known tor his brilliant oratory ora-tory and good fellowship. He took a leading part In many e"orci?es where patriolic addresses were the feature. He has a polished delivery anil Ids speeches here evoked grc;i t admiration. Mr. Meakin also took a. leading part in fraternal organizations. Thn roport of his illness up cad here yesterday and telegrams of encouragement werr- sent by many friends who recognize in Mr. Meakin Mea-kin a staunch supporter of Hue American Ideals. His general disposition endeared him to all with whom he came in contact while here. That disposition won him friends without number In Washington, where his Illness is said to be as keenly I felt as in Salt Lake. |
